Guna Institute & Vairochana's Legacy
"Without translators, the teachings of the Buddha would not have illuminated the lives of so many different people. What more meaningful way to serve others than to educate yourself in the skills of a translator?"
-- Venerable Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche
Guna Institute is Mangala Shri Bhuti’s seat in India, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, and next-door to Chokling Monastery. Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche’s vision for this center is for it to offer students a focused environment where they can delve deep into the study and contemplation of Buddhist philosophy. The summer of 2012 saw the completion of the center's five-year Tibetan Translator’s Degree Program, and its graduates now comprise Vairochana's Legacy, Mangala Shri Bhuti's small translation group. Vairochana's Legacy is devoted to working diligently to follow in the footsteps of many great translators of the past and present, in order to make more classical Tibetan Buddhist texts available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
Rinpoche will continue to offer courses of study at Guna Shedra. The curriculum and schedule are currently under development. Please check back here, or join our mailing list (see below), to keep abreast of these programs.
