May bodhicitta, precious and sublime, arise where it has not yet come to be. Where it has arisen may it never fail, but grow and flourish more and more.

      Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Unbroken lineages of wisdom traditions are rare in these times, and Kongtrul Rinpoche descends from a pure lineage of the Dzogpa Chenpo Longchen Nyingtik tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

      About Mangala Shri Bhuti

MSB is a part of the Longchen Nyingtik and Khyen-Kong-Chok-Sum lineages. (Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, and Terton Chokgyur Lingpa, collectively known as Khyen-Kong-Chok-Sum, were the heart of the Rimé, or nonsectarian, movement, which did so much to preserve and harmonize all schools of Tibetan Buddhism in the nineteenth century.)

Pema Osel Do Ngak Choling is Mangala Shri Bhuti’s East Coast study and practice center. Nestled deep in the woodlands of eastern Vermont, Pema Osel is 30 minutes north of Hanover, New Hampshire, across the Connecticut River Valley. Pema Osel was built with the intention of serving students from the local community, as well as those from areas such as Boston (three hours drive) and New York City (five hours drive).

Please join us for our  Sunday sitting and Link teachings  at 10am.   The morning schedule begins with opening chants, followed by sitting and walking meditation, and closing chants until 11:45. From noon to 1 p.m., we listen to the weekly LINK, a live teaching given by Rinpoche, Dungse Jampal Norbu, Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel, or a senior student.

Masking is optional. We ask that if are symptomatic or have had a recent exposure to covid-19 that you please practice and listen to the Link from home.

Annual Programs

Kongtrul Rinpoche’s public program at Pema Osel each year in early fall is the  The Source of Mahamudra. In addition, he leads an annual Mahayoga Sadhana Retreat and together with Dungse Jampal Norbu, the Ngondro Retreat for formal MSB members. Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel teachs the Mahayana Essentials program in the spring. Tsetar: The Practice of Life Release
with Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Rinpoche releasing a lobster into the sea Rinpoche leads us in the practice of tsetar or life releaseseveral times a year in Portland, Maine. These events happen the day after Rinpoche’s Pema Osel teaching programs. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in, either by attending in person or by contributing to the purchase of live lobsters. Life release is a traditional practice in Buddhism, and in addition to saving lives, we offer the merit of this virtuous activity to those who are suffering, who have passed away, and to all sentient beings wandering in samsara. You are welcome to make a prayer request in connection with your offering to life release. If you plan on attending the life release in person, please check Rinpoche’s Facebook page on the morning of the release for information about the exact time and location.
